How do you deal with your child's unruly behavior?

My daughter is 18 months and has a big problem with Hitting, slapping, scratching and bitting! I just don't know how besides telling her no and try to explain why its not ok just for her to turn around and do it again. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how?

when mine were that age, I would give a firm No hitting, (biting or what ever) Then if it happened again I would turn my back to them for a minute or so after I repeat it after a week or so they quit. I guess its the same as a timeout like mentioned before :) good Luck

Try time out. I thought my daughter was too young at 18 months for that but she completely understood it and it made her unhappy about the situation. She is now 20 months and it still helps. Other than that maybe put her somewhere safe like her bedroom with a baby gate to be for a bit. Have you tried anything else besides talking?

Jessie I tried time out but it doesn't phase her. I also put her down and ignore her like her doctor told us too but she thinks its funny or she will then scratch herself or try and give a kiss to make it better.

My DD is 18 months too! Have you joined January 2010 babies? There is plenty of help in there because of her age group. Also my DD does all of that too besides biting! She can be hard to handle, or have this violent look to her like shes going to slap me! She loves pulling hair ( i have long hair) she even does this to my mom too! (we're real close) I tell her 'okay! mommy is going to set you down fora bit!" She ll start to cry - I let her for a minute then pick her right back up ...really i let her down for 20 seconds or so. It breaks mama's heart to hear her cry!
