Discipline should always be in love and age appropriate. For toddlers I use redirection, and I do not enforce unwanted behavior with treats or praise.( Babies get a pass, they are too adorable to ever get mad at !) With schoolagers, 3 warnings and game and tv/computer time is with held for a short amount of time. Its restricted until they only have 30 minutes. With high schooler, talking helps by trying to let them see the error of their ways and guiding them to think things thru on their own, when this fails the will spend less time with friends and doing activities that are non essential, This is an uphill challenge for budding young adult, so I say consistency and mean what you say. I admit I am constantly learning and tweaking my approach to love with discipline as I like to call it. Some days I feel I did great and others I have more to learn.
