How do you explain tampons to a 4 year old boy?

What do you tell a four year old? I don't think I want to tell him everything, but don't necessarily want to lie. I've tried to change the subject, but he keeps bringing it up.

just tell him they are 'mummys things' and that he isnt a girl so he doesnt need to know i have said that to my 4yr old boy to my 8 yr old who asks i tell her the same that they mummys things and that when she is old enough ill explain more :-)

Um, Helen -- if your daughter is 8, I would recommend explaining tampons to her NOW. A lot of girls are getting their periods around age 9 or so...

Place them out of eye sight he will soon forget about them. If he continues to ask although he can not see them then tell him they are for ladies and not for boys and leave it at that.
