Hi Kate! Sounds to me like he is teething, my almost 6 month old son does the same thing and his first tooth just cut through. My pediatrician told me babies can teeth for a while without actually seeing teeth. I just did a youtube video on teething with some great tips/remedies, feel free to check out. Good luck momma! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sA6UEycM54o

He is sucking or biting his hands? Sucking I'd more of a developmental thing whereas biting is normally because of teething pain. Try letting your lo chew on frozen carrots or a wet washcloth. Teething mittens work great too

Sounds like he may be. Other symptoms are diarrhea, rashes on trunk of body, tons of drooling, pain, loss of appetite. Sometimes you can see clear bubbles on the gums, or feel the ridges of the teeth.
