I always found that just before my son's teeth popped through his gum would go white ish where the tooth comes out. If you run your finger over your daughters gums you will feel bumps as well if the teeth are close to coming through. Although until one actually cuts you can never be fully sure they are going to break through, my son has several teething sessions where no teeth come through, but they are getting ready to and moving in the gums which is just as painful for the LO's.

When my son is teething I give him teething powder as I have found it works better than the gels for him and soothes him more. I try to avoid things such as calpol (medicine) unless he is running a fever with it because I am not a fan of using meds for everything, but I know lots of people do.

As for soothing the gums depending on your babies age you could give her things such as a damn flannel to chew on (you could even freeze it) many children find that really soothing. Fruit chopped up and given to suck on is great for weaned/ weaning children, as is yogurt and ice pops. Really anything cold that can be safely chewed on by your child should help ease the burning of cutting a tooth.

If it is really bad for her you can try giving her Tylenol to help with the pain. You can also try baby Ambesol (sp?) or baby Orajel. Just a tiny bit to rub on her gums. If you use too much it could freeze the back of her mouth and it could cause her to have trouble swallowing.

just look at them they will be red and swollen and feel with your finger rub them and you will feel bumps and if they are close to popping through you will know I always have used hylands teething tablets for my son they work wonders my doctor said to not use oral gel because it can toughen the gums and make it harder for the teeth to pop through
