How do you know when your toddle is ready to be moved to a bed?

I moved my son from his crib to a toddler bed just before age 2, but it's not uncommon for them to remain in a crib well past that point. My son was a climber and a jumper and even with the crib at it's lowest point, I always feared he would fall out, so I switched to a toddler bed and it's been great. Just make sure you have a safety rail on the bed until you're confident your child won't fall out of bed and you should be good to go when you're ready to make the switch. But really, unless there's a concern, no need to rush changing from a crib to a bed.
