Do you say the first part

ah na Or

Ann a

And the second part do you say

Stay Or

Stah

And the third part,

Jah. Or

See ah. Or

Zee ah. Or

Sha

Or another way?

Where do you live cuz that affects how you pronounce things too.

My youngest daughter's middle name is Anastasia :)

We pronounce it Ah-na-stah-cia (like 'see ya'). My FIL says that's the traditional Russian prononciation and since he was born in Belgium to Russian parents I tend to listen to his advice in this area :)

Do people do that? Discuss and decide baby names for their next baby even before this one has arrived? Heck, we didn't make any final decisions on names until my babies were born, LOL.

Anyway, I say it Ann a Stay Jah.

I pronounce it Ana stayasia or Anna stass iea
I'm a Canadian born Ukrainian so I go either way with the pronunciation of Anastasia which is a typically Russian name

Most I've heard pronounce it ANNA STAYS EEYA, but I think I prefer AHNAH STASYA, with all the 'a's being an ah sound...

any particular reason?

We used Ah-na-STAH-cia (like 'see ya') also. We spelled it with a 'c' (Anastacia) because we're Americans and were trying to avoid the ugly stepsister name 'Ah nah STAY zha'. It failed, lol. BUT, Staci uses Staci and now has a bit of sympathy for her mom who is named Christianne (ONLY folks from Europe will pronounce that right, lol. It isn't 'christy anne') I use Christy, lol!!

In Australia (but I have a Slavic backgroung) and I would pronounce it:

Anah - Stay - Ziya.

Does that make any sense?

But if I were to say it in my slav language it would be:

Anah-Staz-yia Spelt: Anastazjia.

I absolutelly loved that name and felt the same way about it like you do. Sounds royal - well cos it was used in royalty - Russian. :-)

It was on my shortlist when I was pregnant with my little girl, but upon her birth it totally did not suit her :-) But Emma certainly did :-)

i live in holland. i know eurpean pronounciation is different. my name is spelt Anna, but said like Ana. my daughters name is Daniella and i have to cringe when i hear friends of mine from New Zealand say her name. it just doesnt sound right! lol i would say Ah-na-stah-see-ah (ending in the above 'see-ya' sound). the language you use/country you live in totaly has an influence.

Yeah, guilty!
I admit I'm totally obsessed with names, and here I have women from all over the world to help me get perspective on names. It's pretty cool!
Like a world wide poll. On something I actually care about :P

And that convo about Fierna totally made me feel more confident in our choice. I'm so excited to meet her!

Lol, I'm having a girl in 6 weeks, her name is ...
But we want more kids later so I'm always looking into names :)
I just adore names and like to be prepared well in advance. I like to pick apart every name for as long as possible so I know for certain I'll still like it years from now. So when I find a name I'm interested in I look into it alot to either make sure I love it, or decide I don't like it.
I love annabeth for sure, but hubby likes Stacy and I'm liking Anastasia right now cuz it sounds so royal and feminine. And he can nick name her Stacy.
But I don't know if the pronunciation issue will turn me off from it.
I'm a bit nuts, I know :)

Annaleise is what my cousin went with because she didn't like the way people were saying anastasia. Are you picking baby names? It's so tough picking a name. I put so much thought into it! Good luck picking a pronunciation.

Oh yeah, forgot that one!
Man there's alot of ways to pronounce this name!
I really like the name, but I say it
Ann ah stay ja
And ideally dislike the ahna beginning
And I definitely don't prefer the stah see ah or stay zee ah endings.
Hmmmm

I think it depends on what country you are in, what language you speak and how you've heard it pronounced. I've heard it said many ways. I've said it different ways.

anna - stayz -E- uh is one that you didn't have up there that i've heard. some people end it "sha" Knew a girl who spelled it Anasztasia. pronounced it short a Ahn- ahz-ta-see-ah
