How does your toddler play with their toys?

My son is 20 months he's got great toys: trucks, blocks, puzzles, play kitchen, music things, books, rider toys, etc. The thing is except for his kitchen and rider toys he pulls them off the shelf dumps them on the ground and walks away that's it he never actually plays with them. All day long I'll pick them up and put them away and as soon as I finish (sometimes before I get done) he'll go around dump them on the floor but nothing else. He looks right at me and pushes them off the shelf with a smile like he's doing it just to spite me (I know he probably isn't at this age it just bugs me that I pick up toys 10 times a day just so he can knock them off a shelf). He does however play with the broom, pots and pans, Tupperware, rags anything I use during my normal day is what he wants to play with just not his toys. I have 2 questions I guess 1) does your toddler play with their toys and if so like that? 2) would it be wrong to take away all but the few he actually plays with? thanks

He'll play pretend with his kitchen, push around his toy truck some, look at his picture books (he can name all the different things and sometimes "reads" to his little sister), and if I'm doing it with him put the puzzle together. But other than that he doesn't do really anything with toys even if I'm playing with him. He's got good motor skills he can walk, run, climb, hold crayons, pick up small items like beads with his fingers. His verbal skill are starting to really explode he's learning at least 5 new words a day right now and can let me know what he needs. We are starting potty training because he keeps coming to me to tell me when he has gone potty. He seems on target for things it just as soon as he out grew the sticking things in his mouth phase he was done with toys no matter what toys I buy.

My daughter is 16 months, she has a dump truck, a few riding toys, blocks, dollys, books, little hot wheels, coloring books, regular books, play phones, remotes, shape sorters, a puzzle, a purse, and some rattles. My daughter plays pretend with the remotes, phones, dollys, and purse. She says 'beep beep' when playing with anything thats vehicle related and also moves them forward and back along the carpet. She puts shapes in the shape sorter then puts it down, carries the puzzle pieces everywhere and only plays with the puzzle if I play too. she pretends to read the books and says 'doggie' and 'kitty' or whatever is in the picture then babbles in sentences like shes reading the book aloud. She does take her toys out of the play box, I put them back. I put away toys she doesn't play with and keep toys she does. Once she gets bored with them, I pull some other ones out.
