same goes here...i just weaned my son after breastfeeding him for 2 yrs and i still have no sign of my period....it makes me worried..and yes i'm not pregnant...need to go for a check up but i'm soo worried...

[deleted account]

I stopped breastfeeding at between 6 and 7 months and I just got my period now. My baby is 9 months now. So in total, I went 18 months without menstruating. I follow the Creighton model of Natural Family Planning so I have been observing my mucus. I was dry all while breastfeeding then four weeks prior to having my period, the mucus returned. That was a clear sign that the hormones and everything was gearing up again.

I just weaned my son off the breast h he is seventeen months I am worried because as my milk decreased when he turned eight months I came on my period. Now he is completely weaned my milk is gone and I have not came on my period for two months.

with my first son, i did not get my period for a year after I stopped BF. With my second it was 6months after I stopped BF and w/my 3rd it came 4 months after I had her, eventhough I nursed until she was 2yrs old. I think for everyone is different.

It's really normal. Like the ages kids develop certain skills, there is very wide range of normal here. I got my period back 4 months after the birth of my children (both times, same amount of time, and yes I was entirely breastfeeding) but my friend, who was slowly weaning, didn't get hers back for a year after she completely stopped!

Hello, I breastfed my daughter for the first 6 months. It was about 4 weeks after I stopped that my period came back but my doctor said it was normal for it to take several months to start your period after you stop bf. Are you nursing or pumping at all? dont panic if your done completely and it hasnt returned everyone is different and it could take awhile, I was hoping for a few months without it. consider yourself lucky, heck Im jealous of you! my non-professional opinion, if you havent started within 6 months of being done then i would ask your doctor, and make sure your not pregnant!

I had my period during breastfeeding. I think I got it when my daughter was 3months old. I nursed her until she was 12months. Sorry no solution, just adding my $.02

Yeh, like a few people here have said, it's different for everyone. For me, it was different for both of my babies. I didn't bleed once until stopping breastfeeding my first (which I did for a year). My second one, I had periods galore while I was breastfeeding. As long as your doc has given you exams, and you're healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. Unless you're pregnant of course--then, good luck with that!

With my frist I had a c-section still nursed for a year and my period was right on. Then with my son we stoped nursing two months a go and my periods back. I didn't have at all when nursing him but now that it's back I have had it three times a month for a week at time with few days break so. I would say going with out is a lot better then this :0)

Consider yourself lucky! I am still bf and I have been getting my period for 3 months. I think it is different for everyone. I have heard of it taking up to 6 months after you are done the get a period, and a year before it is regular.

I only breast fed for 2 months due to problems with my milk supply, but I had my period within three weeks of having my son.

All i can say is count yourselves lucky....i breastfed all three of my children; the first for 3 months, the second for 7 and the last for 16. With all three within about 2 months of giving birth my little friend was present. I think it varies with your body fat content, hormones and nutrition. Talk to your doctor, take a test to reassure yourself, make sure your diet's healthy and enjoy it's absence!

I got mine back just two weeks after my DD started solids. How long has your baby been weaned? As others have suggested, it IS possible to get pregnant while breastfeeding, even if you never get your period. I got 4, I think, while breastfeeding, then got pregnant, and breastfed all through my pregnancy and am tandem nursing now. So if you don't get it in a few more weeks I would test.

It starts at different times for different people. I haven't got mine back yet and my baby is 6 months old. She is still breastfed, but has formula and solids as well. Ask your doctor if it doesn't seem right. And take a pregnancy test. =)

Wow, glad everyone one commented! I was wondering when mine was coming back too! I wasn't aware of what is and isn't normal! My son is 12 weeks and still no period...so it's good to find out that that's normal!

Thanks to all your responces. I have done a pregancy test and that is negative (which I thought it would be) so I presume that everything is just taking a while to get back to normal....Just going to enjoy not having them but if it takes too much longer - I will go see my doctor. Thanks again x

With my twins they were 3 months old and with my youngest who is 4 1/2 months old it came back whe he was 4 months old. I have a sister in law whos daughter weaned on her own between 6-8 months old and her period didn't come back till her daughter was 18 months old. Everybody is different.

I breastfeed till my twins were 15 months old, My period returned when they were about 7 months old. It was not to bad when i started seeing it again but now that I am completely finished I am back on track. My sister is still breastfeeding, trying to wean off and her baby is 16 months old and she never started yet. she can't be pregnant because her husband is fixed. So I guess it depends on the person and your body.

Mine started back up around 3 months, probably because I had started to introduce the formula into her diet too, in preparation for my return to work.

I quit breastfeeding my son at 1 year and it took like 2-2 1/2 months before it returned.

Mine showed up at 15 months before I weaned at 18 months. Not sure what to tell you.

I breastfed my son until he was 14.5 months old and I started getting irregular periods around 11-12 months. It came every so often and didn't become routine again until I got on a hormonal birth control.

Well... my doc said can usually take 3 months to return, but it took me 4 after stopping and it came back with a vengeance! But it did come. just enjoy not having it just yet! if you are worried maybe you should take a test to set ur mind at rest.

I stopped when Charlie was 4 months, and didn't get 1st period until 4 months later. Hope this helps, as I had the same worries...

Every person is different. I breastfed for a year, but my periods started within a month of my son being born. It really is an individual thing depending on hormones. Your body might not be ready yet. Just hope you didn't use breast feeding as a form of contraception, because you may have ovulated and not known it.

I have been on the mini pill since my doctor put me on 3 weeks after given birth. I have didn't have a period while breast feeding but then I didn't with my other son. I only breast fed my eldest for three months before putting him onto formula and my period came back after 4 weeks or so but I breast fed my youngest till he was 6/7 months and now is 8 months and I still not had a period.

Hello there,

My periods, i think my baby was 6 months old, started again once i had introduced solid food and my baby had cut out a couple of milk feeds. But it wasn't the usual heavy monthly periods, i didn't have those until about a year later. It was just a trickle when it wanted whilst i was still breastfeeding. I completely stopped breastfeeding when the little teeth were too sharp to bear..

Good luck hunny. xx

You sure you're not pregnant again? I had my period like clockwork while breastfeeding.
