How long after I unthaw breast milk do I have before it goes bad? if I put it in a bottle and feed some to my baby and he doesnt drink it all do I still have a few hours to save it in the fridge or do I have to pour it out right away?

yes that helps. Thank you for that, If anyone out there does know about how long the milk lasts once unthawed and unused I would appreciate it. I have been breastfeeding straight from the teat but my baby drinks so much I find myself having to pump and store milk as well so Im not constantly feeding him through out the day, I can give him some in the bottle

Once milk is removed from the refrigerator, you have a half hour in which to use it. After this time elapses, milk should not be returned to the refrigerator for use later; this is especially important if your baby drank any of that milk, as it has had contact with his mouth and potentially introduced bacteria into the liquid.

That's what I was told by the NICU staff as we were preparing to bring my daughter home. I'm sorry that I cannot remember the rule on how long milk could be in the refrigerator before use once thawed, probably because we never had a situation where it lasted longer than 24 hours.

Hope that helps.
