Hi All

My little girl is much happier only being put down once a day, but she is also finding it hard to settle as she gets more tired than she is used to feeling.

she is 13 months.

Its been 6 days of me keeping her outdoors and busy, but with reading/music quiet moments if i notice she is getting cranky ... she has lunch at 12-12.30, a bath from 12.30 - 12.45, and then a story and in her crib. Usually asleep by 1pm after a bit of rolling around i her crib.

She sleeps for 1 - 1.5 hours and then awake until bedtime

I am following this routine every day to help her get used to it and settle into it ...

My question is - how long does it take to adjust into a new routine ... as if she is still finding it hard next eek, I am wondering whether to go back to 2 naps ...

She is a stubborn one - its not as simple as 2 naps one day, and 1 nap the next, as once she knows she doesnt HAVE to nap - she will do everything in her power to fight it!

I wanted to offer her a morning nap on day 2 of this new transition as she seemed to need it, but knowing she didnt have to - she cried and cried until i came - i didnt want to force it on her ... whereas by 1 pm i have the confidence to not give in and she must nap.

Any advice?

Thank You!

My daughter stopped the evening nap when she turned 1. but she has always been a good sleeper. She used to sleep 9a-11a have lunch and go back to nap from 12 until 3p, now she takes one nap 12-3:30p. Try to put them down earlier for naps and make sure there is at least 4-6 hours in between naps and bedtime.

You may want to try putting her down for her nap a wee bit earlier. I found when I laid my children down too late, I missed their sleep window and they were difficult to lay down. I also found laying them down earlier encouraged a longer sleep period. Mine usually went down around noon.

It will take a few weeks or months but there is a pretty good chance she will begin to sleep longer as she adjusts. I found over time my children's nap became one big nap. They started out only napping for an hour and a half (the same length as when they took 2 naps) which over time became a good 2.5-3 hour nap.

Both my children went to one nap at around age 10 months. They went from napping at 10am - 11:30am and 2:00pm - 3:30pm to 12:30pm - 2:30pm..

All kids are different though.. Although by 13 months, I suggest one nap only...

Do not go back to 2 naps. By this age they should be taking one. Let her sleep as long as she wants for her nap.

I found that my daughters just didn't want another nap and quickly transitioned.
