This is kind of one of those things that just has to happen. I think we called a halt to it by 1 1/2 but it may have been sooner. He is 17 now so memory is a little strained : ) the other two used fingers and thumb. The thumb sucker was more like 8-10 years! Anyways best thing when your ready is to tell them it is only for bedtime. so set boundries despite any temper tantrums and leave it in the bed or near it. "We are going to save this now for bedtime." Then stick to your word. After a month or so then throw them out. Sometimes it helps to have them help throw them out because they are a big boy/girl now. It's hard but if you cave in you just make the process cruel and prolonged.

My only 2 to actually take one were my girls, and neither were too fond of it. My oldest decided at 6 weeks she was done with it, and my 4th only took it while she was in the hosp under the lights for jaundice. Once she got out, she hated the thing. She was my only one to suck her thumb though, but only did that til she was 3 months. I guess I kind of lucked out in that department.
