My daughter was born December 8, 2013. I gave birth vaginal. I had to get stitches 2 the size of a pinkie nail n another the size of a woman's small hand pointer finger. I did bleed after I had her for a few weeks estimated about 7weeks n then I stopped, then got my period a week after that so we say weeks nine I got my period then gone again now I've been spotting this dark/brownish/redish blood. It looks like old blood but how would that be if its be go in on since my daughter was nine weeks old and now she's 3 months as of yesterday. No pain or discomfort jus sick of the bleeding. Please help me.

Bleeding more than a week in my opinion is too long. Go see your Dr. I had a regular birth and bled for the same amount of time as my periods last -- 1 week. Losing too much blood is dangerous. Please seek help.

I bled for almost 15 weeks! I had a vaginal ultrasound around 8 weeks to see if I had residue left over from delivery, but that was not the case. They put me on bc pills to regulate my hormones because they felt my hormones were "confused" and stuck in a cycle. That did not help and made the bleeding heavier. I felt weak and dizzy a lot...so I went to see my acupuncturist. Within a week of acupuncture and herbs it just stopped. I don't know if you had a long or difficult delivery, but I did. My acupuncturist explained my body was depleted of what it needed to function normally and the herbs replenished that. My Dr said past 8 weeks it is definately not normal and is hormonal based.

I bleed for about 6 weeks and I had over 30 stitches, then I got infection due to leftover placenta. After medication for about a week, I just stopped.

I bled a little for about 2 weeks, then for 2 days it was unbelieveably heavy, then it just stopped. So I guess I was lucky, but it took about 2 and a half weeks.

I got a couple stitches on the inside but I bled for like 3 months! At 1st it was just the lochia bleeding and then it was light and sometimes heavier. I breastfed my daughter until she was 9 months old and then I finally got a normal period. But, now I have realized my periods are soo much heavier and last like 7 days.. we are tring for # 2.. I can't wait to be preg again so I dont have to worry about the bleeding anymore, LOL! Did you go to your 6 week post partum appt. yet? If you have concerns ask your OB.. but I think it is normal. Congrats on your baby and good luck!

My daughter is now 7yrs old. I was classified as high risk for my pregnancy. I was diabetic and towards the end I was induced two weeks early due to high blood pressure. I had no tearing so therefore no stitches and as I posted earlier only bled for 1 week.

Congratulations! :) Even with serious internal tears and endometritis, an infection of the uterus, 7 days after I gave birth, I stopped around 8 weeks, and only passed one decent-sized clot. And I had to wear those tugboats for pads for weeks lol. If you start to feel like you have the flu, get to the doctor. Good luck!

I bled for six or seven weeks after I delivered my son, I was still bleeding a little bit when I went for my six week checkup with my midwife and she said that is normal and it can be normal to bleed for up to 8 weeks. I tore very badly also, I don't know if this was a factor. It's also normal to think you're finished and then start up heavily again...just keep in mind that it can get heavy if you're doing too much.

With my son I bled for almost 2 mths. One thing to consider is your physical activity. Exercise is good for you, but make sure you don't get to crazy. I had the same thing happen a couple times following exercise that was probably a little too vigorous. But, definitely talk to your dr/midwife if you're worried or if it doesn't stop. You should be getting close to your 6wk follow up so that's a great opportunity to ask any questions. ;)

I had a c section and bled for close to 9 weeks. If you haven't stopped by the end of November talk to your Dr.

I had my son natural and only bled for like a wk and a half...but it took me almost 5 mo after i stopped bleeding to get a period. I took like 5 preg tests, i was so scared i was preg agian. I wouldnt freak out too much unless if it gets really heavy, you start feeling sick or dizzy, or it doesnt stop within a few more wks. You should be able to call your dr's office and talk to a nurse or someone and ask them for thier medical advice. They can tell you how long to wait before you need to be seen. If you start getting too worried I would suggest calling them though, just for reassurance.

Quoting Clarisse:

i bled for 11 weeks! which is not normal. i retained placenta and needed a d&c. my midwife told me it was normal, and my second opinion told me it was not and scheduled surgery. see your dr or midwife if you are concerned, and get a second opinion if neccesary. i dont mean to scare you, retained placenta only happens 2% of the time.

I almost had the same thing happen to me.  I bled for 9 weeks after my second child, it would get very light and pink in color, then go back to a dark brown/red color.  They were concerned that I had retained part of my placenta, even though I had a c-section.  I went ahead and went back to work at 9 weeks and was told to call for fever or other signs of infection.  If I didnt stop bleeding in 1 week they were going to schedule for a d&c.  Luckily during my first week at work I passed some "tissue" and the bleeding stopped a few days after.  I can only attribute it to standing on my feet all day.  Normal bleeding should only last around 6 weeks, sometimes shorter if you start on birth control.  Call your doctor immediatly for signs of infection such as foul odor with discharge, fever or severe lower abdominal pain.

3 months with my first 6 weeks with my second and third. I agree with some of the other moms. Call you doc. If you retained placenta there are medications that may help you or you might need a d&c, which is really an easy peasy surgery that may help.

It took me almost 6 weeks to stop! Mine was full force for about 3 weeks straight then slowed. I had a vaginal with stitches but also had complications with plecenta not detaching and bleeding out and had to have a blood transfussion. With my second it took about 4 weeks.

I had slight tearing. I blead for 4 1/2 weeks. It too was off and on! I would have a lot of blood at time then small amounts. I found the more active I was the more I bled. However, you want all the blood to come out. Read 'What to Expect when expecting' the post partum section. It has a lot of helpful information in there!

Congrats on your new arrival. It took about 6 weeks for me to stop bleeding and it did get lighter then heavier. Try to take it easy and rest - it's good to walk around and do stretches or pelvic toning exercises but no strenuous exercise or heavy lifting etc. You should certainly talk to your doctor or midwife if you are worried about it.

I also had a vag. birth but with an episiotomy. I bled for about 6 weeks after non-stop before I began getting regular periods again. I believe 6-8 weeks is normal. It seemed like I was bleeding too long after to me too but it was totally normal.
