How many is too many for one daycare provider?

My 6 month old son attends an in-home daycare. I trust the daycare provider and I am happy with her service; however, I'm becoming concerned with the adult-to-child ratio. In addition to my son, there are five 1-2 year olds; and another 1 1/2 year old is starting tomorrow; and frequently she has her 1 year old grandson. That's 8 children under the age of 2. Is this too many? Sidebar: I myself am a teacher and know the benefits of a smaller class size with regards to one-on-one attention. But I'm unfamiliar with the daycare system and don't know the policies of other childcare centers. Any advice/thoughts/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Dom's Mom

I know the law here is that you can't have more than 2 under 2 without an aide. She either isn't licensed or she's lying. I would not be comfortable having my child there.

it does sound like a bit much for one carer. there should be state laws and guidelines relevant to your area that you can access online
