My son who is 3 is already reading, writing his name, can count to 50, speak Russian (we are not Russian, I just speak 4 languages and wanted to expose my kids to other languages), and way out performs my 8 year old daughter. It's very frustrating, because she gets upset when her brother can already tie his shoes and she cant. She potty trained very late, (almost four) and he was fully potty trained the day he turned 2. I need help! I don't mean to compare kids it just really blows me away.

Shawnn,
I certainly hope so!!!! She gets plenty of attention-she was my only child for a full 5 years before little brother came along. I adore my daughter. Nobody gets any special "treatment". As a healthcare professional who evaluates children on a daily basis, (and daddy is a general surgeon), we both can see the difference in our children.

No two are the same. Explain to your daughter that no two people are the same, nor will they have the same abilities and level of skill.

It may also help her if you stop fussing about her 'gifted' brother. He is advanced, yes, but as he matures, the development levels may slow down, or normalize, if you will. It sounds as if you may be extolling the extreme 'gifts' and talents that your younger child has, and the older is noticing that she's not getting as much attention.

You also need to take into account that your eldest has yet to find her niche, and when she does, she may excel beyond your wildest dreams. ;-)
