I am exclusively breastfeeding my 9 month old and she is eating solids now 3x/day. she seems to not want to nurse much anymore (every 6-8 hrs). My milk supply is decreasing quickly, and she does not know how to drink from a sippy cup yet. I have started her on a sippy cup this week. I am worried she may lose weight if i don't have much milk supply left. help!

Are you offering the breast before the solids?

If I remember correctly, my girls at that age were nursing 4-5 times (once or twice in the night) every 24 hours. My son was only eating solids at random at that age and was nursing ALL the time.

If you think your supply is decreasing and you'd like to continue nursing.... make sure you offer the breast before the solids. You could also cut down her solids to only once or twice a day for a couple of weeks to boost your supply and then add back in the other meals.

Good luck!

She shouold definately be having 3 meals a day at 9 months, and should also soon be having morning tea and afternoon tea. My daughter is 10 months today and personally she nurses about 3x a night and about 6-7 times a day but that isnt really normal, she eats alot to. You can nurse before solids like Teresa said I always do this, but that said at 9 months please remember the food is more important then the milk. She needs to focas more on eating solids. If your not already my main suggestion would be making sure your nursing before food if that will make you feel better. I presume your using water with solids, as recommended, maybe limit the water a bit. Good luck
