How miserable are babies when teething? I'm a first time mom and I believe my four month out is teething. She is showing all the signs of teething but she goes thru screaming fits but also can be happy and playing..

She is usually an extremely happy baby from the moment she wakes and smiles at you in her sleep. She still wakes up happy but the she screams for about 30 mins. Then falls asleep and then wakes up happy again and the cycle goes on like that. But still sleeps thru the night

My daughter was fine during the day but at night she became a nightmare, even tylenol didn't help. She went from sleeping through the night to waking every 30-60 minutes unless she was being held. We even took her to the pediatrician because we were so concerned, he didn't even see the teeth when he checked her out and told us to wait a couple of days to see if it got better. A day or two later the tooth came through and she went back to her normal self at night.

I totally agree with Amanda. It totally depends on the child.

My son showed NO signs at all during the day. It was only at night that he would cry, usually a bit just before he went to sleep for the night and then if he woke up after the meds wore off.

My daughter was grumpier than my son during the day, but even she wasn't all that unusually grumpy. Just minor episodes here and there, and then slightly more so around bed time.

I got lucky with my kids. I've heard my share of horror stories too. You just have to take each child, and each tooth at times, as its own experience :)

It depends on the child. My son popped through 3 teeth at a time every time he got new teeth over night and didn't so much as flinch, he made no fuss at all, where my daughter screamed and screamed an screamed morning noon and night until the tooth came through.
