How much fluids should my DD be drinking?

[deleted account] ( 4 moms have responded )

My daughter is 16 months. She loves to drink juice, and would drink it by the barrel full if I let her, but I worry about the sugars and whatnot. She seems to like water with a bit of lemon in it, but she doesn't drink nearly as much as she would juice. If she drinks a lot of juice in the day, she poops really runny, so I don't really want to just give her the juice. She doesn't seem to be having any negative effects from the amount of water she has, but I am just wondering what the "required" amount is...
If you understood my rambling question even a little I would very much welcome any responses, lol:)

I would say first don't even give juice as an option. My daughter gets milk or water. She loves ice water. I would mix the juice with water to dilute and then just water.

I don't give my son juice very often...maybe once every 2 weeks or something. And even then he only drinks like 2oz a day or so. As far as water goes, I put some in a sippy cup & *hope* he drinks some lol. He's not a big drinker, so I really have to work to get some fluids in him. I'll put some in a sippy cup & offer it to him at mealtimes & other times in between. He doesn't drink much during the day, but I know he does get a little water from his food, too. I guess I"m doing the best I can & he'll drink when he's thirsty!

She shouldn't be having any more than 6ozs of juice a day. There is no limit what so ever the amt of water she drinks.

Most doctors and dentists will ask you not to give your children juice at all. It is hard on their teeth, and like you said the sugar content in juice is very high. At 16 months your child will drink when she needs to be it water or juice, so I wouldnt be to worried. Unless shes ill then watch the amount of liquid intakes.
