It depends on the size of the child and their activity level.
1000 calories is what most 2 year olds need each day. If your child is big for their age, or is outside running and climbing for most of the day. they'll need more. Also, if your child is having a growth spurt (usually in the spring) they may need more.
One guideline for meal size is if the child makes two fists, and puts their fists together, that is the size of their stomach. They need to eat about that much for a meal. However, kids tend to eat better in the morning, and lots of toddlers will have three bites at supper and be done. Don't worry about it.
