How much formula does my (almost) 9 month old really need?

My son is almost 9 months old and my boyfriend thinks we are feeding him too much. I have read that he should still be getting about 24 oz of formula a day. However, we are trying to introduce "real food" into his diet now and it seems that he is eating a lot. His schedule looks like:

6:30 - wake up, 1 container fruit with oatmeal mixed in & a 3 oz bottle

9:30 - 6 oz bottle

12:30 - container of veggies & a 3 oz bottle

3:30 - 6 oz bottle

6:30 - container of some type of dinner, or bits of what we have if he can & a 3 oz bottle

9:00 - 7 oz bottle with oatmeal mixed in to help keep him full til breakfast.

He is also eating some Gerber puffs usually throughout the day. Is he getting too much or does this seem healthy?

Cut out the 6oz bottle at 3:30. Feed him some real food. He should be eating more baby food and less formula. Instead of 6oz, give him 3. Same thing at 9:30. Instead of mixing the 7oz IN the bottle, feed him baby food and givfe him maybe 5oz of formula for the night.

My kids were all breastfed with no bottles, but that sounds pretty good on amounts and frequency. He's eating about every 3 hours which I think is fairly normal. I, personally, would not be putting any cereal in the bottle, but I know there are people that choose to do this.
