My guess is if he was 2 pounds at birth he was early. So you then also need to adjust everything to that corrected age. As Dove stated a second opinion would be a good idea. I don't know of too many docs. that would start cereal this early with a premie. Especially if he is decreasing in milk intake......milk is where they get ALL their nutrients.

Not gaining much weight is a lot different than not gaining at all or losing weight.

Is he meeting milestones? Alert and active? Staying hydrated? What was his lowest weight after birth and what does he weigh now?

I am NOT a doctor, nor do I want to give you bad advice, but I do know that 'some' doctors jump to solids as a 'solution' when it isn't really necessary. I would encourage you to do your own research and seek a second opinion as well.

Yah he is not gained much weightt and doctor told me to have him rice cereal or oatmeal and split as breakfast lunch and dinner .between these to give him formula/breastfeeding dependin on his demand.

Was he not gaining weight at all or losing weight? Formula has more calories than cereal, so more of that would probably help him gain weight better. If starting the cereal causes him to drink LESS formula... it is likely to make the weight issue worse.

At 4 months, you should only be feeding breastmilk, or formula, and still pretty much on demand. By starting the empty calories of rice cereal so soon, you are stinting your child on necessary nutrients.
Why did you think it necessary to start him on this now?

At 4 months he should only be having the formula (or breast milk of you were breastfeeding). I do not know ounces as all of mine were breastfed from the tap... but he 'should' be eating at least every 3-4 hours. I have two that ate every 3 hours and one that ate a LOT more frequently... but I know breast milk tends to digest faster than formula.

At this age, his main source of nutrition should be from his milk. These days it isn't recommended that you feed solids until 6 months. Is there a reason you started him on solid food rather than just provide him his formula? In any case, he should not be cutting back milk intake. If you are mixing the rice cereal in his bottles, you need to stop as it is a choking hazard and not recommended. He should only be taking it from a spoon. If you make ALL of his milk full if rice cereal, then you are filling him up on rice cereal and he is missing out on the nutrition he needs.
