How much should I pay a babysitter?

I have an 11 month old and I'm wondering how much I should pay a 15 year old to watch him from 3:30 til about 6? I was thinking $5 an hour or $15 a day. Is that reasonable?

5 an hour is reasonable but do it by the hour....never say OR THIS a day. If she's watching your child for 3-1/2 hours, it should be 17.50....not 15.00.

Edited to Add: and I can't count -lol. 15.00 is good for the time you said. And, 5 bucks an hour where I live for a 15 year old is plenty. Not sure where the 10/hr person lives but thats a lot for here....Colorado.

I pay $10 an hour here with a max of $50 a day for my 4 and 1 year olds. That is about as cheap as it gets around here. When I was 15 I would not have gone for 5 dollars a hour and that was over 10 years ago.

$15 a day for a 15 year old to watch your son 2 1/2 each day sounds reasonable to me. I know for me I am not made of money and my sitter watches my twins for 10 hours a day $65 per day. That is the amount we agreed upon. There is no way I could afford $10 an hour that would be $500 per week.

I would ask around where you live as the going rate can vary significantly by area. Where I live, we're up between $7.50 and $10 an hour, so that would be really low, but it might be just fine where you live.
