I admire you for staying home with the baby. Although it is sad to hear you are struggling with in-laws about why you are staying home. So now you are upset, your husband thinks something different than what is happening and you are anxious. Where does the anxiety come from? Not working, or not being able to explain your thoughts to your husband and in-laws? Once you know why you are anxious, then you are better able to express yourself.
It seems the in-laws need to be reminded that of your husband’s decision for you to stay with the baby. If being direct in your conversation is not acceptable, then ask yourself why not? You must find inner strength to express your feelings so everyone understands your situation in order for there to be peace in a joint family arrangement. Respect of in-laws also requires them to respect your wishes as well. It is ok to express yourself honestly.
Since you are a professor, do some online research about in-law relationships to help you sort through problems with husbands and family. Keeping you in thought and prayers.

Your husband needs to stand up for you and let them know you made a decision as husband and wife and it's not for them to judge.
