How soon is it okay to start shopping?

This is my first baby and im really excited. Me and my boyfriend are looking at buying our first home, so I know that I can't buy any furniture, etc until we get the house. However, I am wondering when it is "Okay" to start buying stuff. I am only 6 weeks. I'm not looking to buy new stuff, mainly to go to thrift stores and pick up the stuff that is really cheap. If it is okay to begin shopping now what small items are okay purchases. I plan on having one shower, with his family...and with his sister having a 8 month old daughter I know ill get some hand-me downs, but she is the only one who still has infant things. I was thinking that crib bedding and the such would be okay because even if I get a few sets at the shower, I know most of my friends used 4-6 sets. I'm just way to excited to wait! Should I just save and run away from every baby item?

You need a pack n play, a crib, bottles, a breast pump, so many other things.......if you're going to buy, buy BIG. A travel system (the car seat and stroller). And you don't want any of those things used.
