I have a son who receives SSI for mildly delayed and mild speech. I want to cancel/terminate his SSI because I feel he is getting better and I want to go back to work. How can I do this and will I have to pay back all that I was given before cancelling? Is this even an option? I'm still young and I feel I can take care of my son and myself with out SSI help. I'm thinking of going back to school and working while he is in school. Has anyone have any advice? Please!

Go to the SSI office and tell them what you want to do. They have a system to help you phase off SSI in a way that won't harm you or your child. Don't be afraid, do it now. You will be able to work, and SSI will be able to give you some help. Don't drop the SSI benefits cold turkey because you may have to reapply. You do not want to reapply because it may be harder to get back on. Why without funds if you need them. SSI even has a get to work program that could benefit your child when the time comes for their independence. Check youtube, SSI website, and other searches.
