We have recently come across a few praying mantis', first being a female... "attached" to a male.... We took them in as pets. After they were done lol, I had to explain before hand that the female would eat the male. The female lived, male, not so lucky... Found another male, and wanting to create a nest of mantis for the garden, left him inside her tank, and they attached again. Thank goodness my daughter seemed more intrigued by the fact the fmale mantis would eat the male. But brought up an interesting question... what is the smoothest way to explain the mating process, and how the eggs could only hatch with the male? Im a single mom, haven't dated since the divorce.... Could use the advice? Don't want to have a completely naive conversation (I very much was growing up, not cool!) But enough for a 7 yr old? Single child also.... no cousins nearby, have always tried to be as honest as I can without scarring her!
