you have to let him learn to do it himself. brush your teeth at the same time. they learn more by watching then they do when you do it for them. he may not get it perfect but with practice he will get better. Good luck and God bless

Let him! Tell him what a great job he is doing, then tell him "mommies turn". Constantly show him the proper way when you are brushing your own teeth.

Brush your teeth along side of him and make a game or song out of it. Okay now we're going to brush the top teeth, now the bottom, the front and the insides and then repeat.

He gets a turn, then you get a turn. Most three yr olds understand that. He needs to practice so he can do it right.

I let my 3 year old 'brush' his own teeth but then we play dentist, I have him sit on the couch and wait his turn then I call his name and have him lay on the couch with his head propped on pillows and have him open his mouth real wide. I pretend to look at his teeth a rave over how shiny they are and how good he does brushing his teeth then I 'clean' them for him.
He has been to the dentist and thinks this is the funnest thing ever. So it works out and he is learnig good hygiene I hope. This is a little time consuming though
