How to get rid of the dummy

My daughter is 2 and has her dummy at rest times, when she is upset, when she hurts herself and also always asks for it when we r in the car. I cant do the cold turkey method coz i feel terrible letting her cry. Any other suggestions on how to get rid of it? At this rate she will have the dummy til shes 5!!!

I have had three kids that love their dummy. I never took it away from them on the cold turkey method. Remove it during the day and let her have it at nap times and bed time. Try to comfort her without a dummy if she hurts herself. I can assure you by the time she is 2.5- 3 years old she will not use it anymore. When she is 2.5 put the dummy in her bed but dont put it in her mouth she can reach for it if she wants it. After a while she will stop looking for it and then remove it.

All this rubbish about teeth being wonky is rubbish. My sons are 21 and 18 and they have beautiful teeth. My daughter is now 3.5 and she binned her dummy 10 months ago. She loved that dummy but simply (like her brothers) grew out of it.

This is a much nicer method than, cutting teats, and just taking it away!
