How to get your 18 month old to eat finger foods...

My son had pyloric Stenosis at 6 weeks old. We have found through research that there is connection with picky eating/textures from that condition. If a texture is to thick, he makes himself throw up. He has nothing else wrong with him, just he is picky, so we still have to feed him pureed food to make sure he gets calories and continuous nutrition. Help!

I would give a mixture of puree and solid finger foods at the same time. If you are giving him pureed apple give him a few slices of apple to hold and to put in his mouth. He has to learn the connection between solid and pureed food and the only way he is going to do this is with exploration that putting food in his mouth will feed him. Let him play with alsorts of textures like mushy banana and crisp bread sticks. If his teeth have been slow to come through the chewing action he will learn from putting food in his mouth will encourage his molars to start to emerge.
