how to get your child to eat

This is very normal. Most toddlers have a stage which can last for over a year were they do not eat very much. Continue to offer a variety of healthy foods and allow her to eat as much as she wants to. Also offer more meals throughout the day. There are many theories that the idea of 3 meals a day is a societal imposition and not something our bodies are naturally accustomed to and it is thought that this is why some toddlers seem to prefer 5 or 6 small meals. Do not turn meal times into a battle field. Children are biologically capable of regulating their own food intake and it does not need to be externally regulated by a parent in a healthy child (unless there are extraordinary factors involved such as a medical condition causing pain when they eat). Try not to worry and have a talk with your health nurse or family doctor who will also assure you this is normal.

Kids are very good at eating just what their bodies need and not much more. Keep offering her healthy foods to pick from at mealtimes then let her go on her way afterwards. You can suppliment in between meals with a healthy snack like fruit or crackers with cheese. Again, just offer it and let her eat it if she wants. If you are concerned about her not gaining appropriate weight, then consult with your doctor or pediatrician about other suppliments you might try. Otherwise keep offering healthy food at meals and let her eat what she wants. Hope this helps and good luck!
