Hi My son turns 3 tomorrow and we are in the process of establishing eligibility requirement through childfind which is happen on the end of February. We are still wrapping our mind over the fact that our son could require special needs. We just thought he was different from others but when professionals at child find raised concerns we were devastated.
Recently I have noticed that he lifts his arms up when he is anxious or upset. He does it when he hears his cousins cry or scream. This morning he did it again when I left him at the preschool. How do I help him cope with his anxiety. I am feeling so confused and helpless at the moment.

Calmly comfort him and reassure him. If he's upset when you are leaving the preschool... give him a big hug and tell him you'll see him after school... and then have the teacher take him and try to distract him w/ something.

My son had separation anxiety BAD for years. He had a 'death grip', so the only way I could leave him at preschool for the first few weeks was to hand him off to the teacher as I was not strong enough to break his grip on my own.

Living w/ anxiety is no fun, but it's certainly doable.
