How to increase dilation and effacement?

This is my second child. I am 40 weeks and dilated 1 cm with 0% effacement. The due is 4/27/2011 (tomorrow). I am concern that I will go pass the due date which will cause a c-section, which the first child was by c-section. I am trying to prevent another c-section. How to increase dilation and effacement so I can have this child by end of the week? Thanks for the information.

There is really no way to increase dilation and effacement other than have contractions. You can, however help ripen the cervix with prostoglandins. Eat lots of pineapple, have lots of sex (orgasm can bring on contractions and can help dilation), and take evening primrose oil.
If you are 1cm, there has to be at least some effacement. a 0% effaced cervix cannot dilate. Any induction efforts at this time would be futile, aside from a cervical ripener, which is contraindicated in a VBAC.
Why would you need to have a c-section if baby is not born by the end of the week? According to the American College of OB/GYN. a normal pregnancy is 37-42 weeks. You may want to discuss this with your doctor. Induction/ c-section is not medically indicated until at least 42 weeks.
I hope all goes well for you and your baby is "allowed" to pick his/ her birthday :)
