How to introduce a lovey to a young toddler?

My daughter is coming up to the age of 2 and has never really taken to a lovey or shown much interest in soft toys. I think she might be starting to take more of an interest now and feel she could benefit from something to cuddle into when asleep. I have bought her a cuddly bunny rabbit as she likes bunnies and have been wondering about how to introduce it. Does your little one have a lovey and how did you introduce it? Many Thanks!

I agree with the responses given. When a child chooses a lovey, it is like a light switch goes off in their head. At least for my kids; my eldest had a nice array of cuddly toys to choose from but what he selected was this awful (to me) stuffed kitty from a flower arrangement given to my sister. It was so weird, we went to see my sister, he was around 15 months and he spied this kitty, asked for it and stuck it under his arm and the match was made. He carried and slept with that kitty for several years. For some reason I don't recall, it was called "old kitty". I have it in a keepsake box for him now. One of my four did not choose a lovey at all.

I agree that children generally will find their own object of affection. You can certainly give them several soft snuggly objects to choose from, and see if they choose one of those. It has been my experience that it's almost a soul mate thing. They will find the lovey or snuggly that is meant for them. There are greater forces working here. Mysteries of the universe and what not. :)

I don't think you introduce a security object. Some kids just decide they need one, and other don't. You can make soft toys and cuddly blankets available, and just leave it up to your daughter how she wants to use it.
