How to re-potty train a child who regressed in the past?

I have a 3 1/2 year old and have been trying to potty train her for about a month now. We do the (mini) m&ms and sticker charts and hoorays every time she goes. She will do really well a few days (usually going pee) and then she'll have a pee and poop accident. I've read some articles online for tips on what to do and read some of the Dr. Spock book about it. I really don't want to go back to pull ups (as I feel she won't learn and that by having them back she'll be satisfied because she can go whenever she wants instead of using the toilet). I also have a 5 year old and a 15 month old (all girls). Any tips or suggestions in guiding her to using the toilet all the time and being a big girl (like her sister)? Thanks!

you're doing fine, Tammi.

Pullups at night are still ok ;-) you're catching her early enough when she wakes to have the 'first morning potty' in the toilet.

I found my kids really disliked cleaning out poopy unders...a great deterrent

Good luck!

Exactly what you're doing.

Keep up the encouragement, do not go back to pullups. When she has an accident, have her help you clean out her underwear. Continue to use the 'big girl' encouragement, also try using the 'when she's ready you can help me with your younger sister' bit. Both helped me with my kids

Thanks for your reply! It seems nothing I say to her is helping. I have tried the whole 'if you don't have an accident we'll go to the store for a toy or something special' bit and that didn't seem to make a difference. When she does have an accident I would say 'no we don't go in our pants - the pee or poop (whichever she did) goes in the potty' and leave it at that. Yet there are some days where it seems I get upset and yell (really not meaning to -- usually it's a domino effect after a day of odd things happening) and I feel bad for doing that. So now I try to stop and breath before saying anything and then getting on with the cleaning her up and getting her new clothes. I will try and have her clean up the clothes and see what she thinks of that. She does still wear a pull up on at night but is usually dry in the mornings -- but right when she wakes up I tell her to go sit on the potty and take the pull up off. Then I try and remind her to go usually every 30 minutes or so - so she doesn't forget and then wait too long. Thanks again!
