Tell your sister to get down to your niece's level...eye to eye...and in a quiet firm tone tell her NO. No more breastfeeding! You are a big girl now, you must drink the milk out of a cup! Your sister is the parent, not the child. The parent is the boss. Tell her Mommies Milk Store is closed!

I agree with Amanda. Tell her no. She shouldn't just be pulling down at your sister's shirt anyway. Does she overpower your sister? No, she's a little child. Put the boobs on lock down and tell her it's all gone and that's that!

Simple and it doesnt need to be applied to the breast, its this funny little word called NO.

I'm not trying to sound harsh, but how bout just don't let the "girls" out? As long as your sister is giving in, she's going to want to keep breast feeding until she weens herself off. When they are that age, they're going to find something to have a tantrum over anyway. Tell her the booby cafe is closed and give her some "big girl food".

I did what Teresa's friend did with the bandaids and it worked well when my daughter was 23 months. It took a couple of weeks, but I didn't get tantrums or a lot of upset over it. And she loved her nursies.

My friend put bandaids on her nipples and told her 3+ year old son they were broken. She kept the bandaids on for 2 weeks and it worked for them.

Even being away from me for a week at that age didn't get my son to stop (of course, I wasn't TRYING to stop either). My son only stopped when he had a 4 week visitation w/ his father at 3.25 years old. He still asked to nurse almost every day for 6 weeks after he got home cuz he wasn't ready to wean.

If your sister really wants to stop now she will probably just have to be more stubborn than her daughter and not let her nurse. She could always let her daughter self wean.... I can understand if she's just over it though. I reached that point w/ my son right around his third birthday, but I knew no way that I could wean him w/out breaking his heart... other than the court ordered visitation.
