I have a 9 yr old son who has a horrible temper. It started with an insecurity issue starting in 3rd grade. Took him to a counselor. Said he has a mild case of anxiety. After a year of counseling things were getting pretty good. But his mouth gets him in so much trouble. He loves to backtalk and honestly doenst even know what hes saying it just comes out like a bad habit. Disrespects all of us with his words and actions and throws some of the biggest fits. I've taken game systems out of the room, took away priveledges, etc and he just doesnt care. He constantly fights with his sister and makes life so hard at times. I love this child to death but my gosh its wearing me down.. Please any suggestions...

My 5 year old has a temper. We taught him to count to ten when he gets angry and then walk away. So far it has been working. As far as taking things away, that didn't work for us either so we developed a reward system. If he gets a certain amount of points a day then he is rewarded: 30 minutes of video games, favorite TV show, dessert, etc. We've only been doing it for a couple of weeks and it isn't perfect but we have seen improvements. Especially in the temper.
