How to teach my son to share

[deleted account] ( 2 moms have responded )

Hi all

My son is 23 months old and he has 2 older sisters 9 and 7.5 years.

He hates to share anything with anyone. If his sisters or a friend even look in the direction of his toys and yells and screams "Mine mine".

My older girls never did this and where always happy to share. I'm not sure what to do - Any suggestions?

Every time he does that remove him from his toys and the room. explain that we share and that he will sit in time out for 2 minutes. (no he isn't to young) Do this for any bad behavior like yelling, hitting, kicking, etc. He will stop it. When the 2 minutes are up remind him why he went to time out, have him apologize, and give you a hug. Then he has to apologize to whomever he made the infraction against. He may then go about what he was playing with or you can choose to move him on to something else.

good luck.

Please let me know if you find something that works! I'm having the same problem with my 2.5 year old and right now he is the middle brother. He has an older brother who is 3.5 years old, a younger brother who is 9 months old, and a new baby brother who will be here in April. Shortly after christmas he started doing what your son is doing and we never had this problem with our oldest. We try to tell him as soon as they are done with your toy you can have it back.
