You can't force him to love writing. Does he DO it at school? Does the teacher have concerns w/ his writing at school? If so... ask the teacher for advice.

My 7.5 year old second grader HATES writing. Seriously hates it w/ a passion. He can do a math worksheet on a good day in under 10 minutes, but if he has to write a 5 sentence paragraph for homework it can take HOURS... not because he can't do it... but because he hates it and just wants someone else to tell him word for word what to write. But... he has zero issues doing it at school, so I basically just pray on the days he has writing homework. lol

If you have been forcing him to practice since he was 3... that 'could' be where some of the hatred comes from (though I have never forced my son to practice... so that's not necessarily the issue).

Bottom line though... they don't have to love the work. Sure, it's great when they do, but whether they love it or not... it just has to get done. I have two kids that used to LOVE school... so much so that they would make me buy workbooks at Walmart that they would do for fun when they weren't in school. They are teenagers now and hate school... but they get their work done, so there's not much to be done about it.

Some kids just don't like writing. If you can make it fun, that can sometimes help. Don't focus too much on spelling. That will come later. Boys also usually have bad handwriting all their lives. Help him learn to write because it's necessary to his future, but don't be surprised if he's 40 and his writing still looks like a toddler wrote it.

Well try to give the candy to him right after he writes instead and promise to give the candy to him as soon as he's done writing to him and see if this works instead.

Did before, but not really works. He will not focuse, but thinking of the candy instead. After he finished writing, he dont know what he wrote at all.

Have you tried to give him stickers or a suprise if he will write and maybe tell him the bigger the suprise if he really does good on his writing? Or have you tried to give him his favorite candy if he writes ?
