How young is too young to start grounding a child?

My step daughter got grounded by her mother for about 2 days for supposedly lying about dropping a coat in the floor. Her father and I do not agree that this was the proper punishment but can't say anything. We also feel she may be too young to ground...She is only 4.

Grounding a 4-year old seems silly to me. It's not like she goes anywhere by herself anyway!!!

Plus, that punishment seems really harsh for a normal kid fib. To me, it makes more sense to talk to her about lying and why it's wrong, and if it persists, take away certain privileges.

Mind you, this will have to be between your husband and his ex. And if they can't come to an agreement, he'll have to let it go -- the ex isn't abusing the girl by grounding her, so it's just going to be one of those annoying things.
