Hypospadias...anyone else dealing with this?

My son who is 21 months just had his second surgery correcting his hypospadias on Thursday. I know that this is a relatively "common" birth defect in boys, I'm just wondering how many others out there have a son with the same issue, or know of someone who does? I feel like an island right now and it would be great to chat with other moms who have gone through this.
Thanks!
Andrea

hi.
my son also has hypospadias. I had never heard of it untill it was diagnosed, althought i now know its very common. Alex was born at 36 weeks and was very tiny, he was diagnosed with 'severe hyospadias', with 3 main issues that would be sorted with surgery. We were told he wounldnt need any surgery untill school age, which we objected to straight away! we were passed from urology to plastics and back to urology, and at long last his first op was 10 days after his 2nd birthday.
He delt with it very well, and was back to his normal self very quick, even with an adult sized catheter,(which he managed to pull out 6 days later causing infections and all sorts). it was now benn 7 weeks since his op and the swelling, infection and stiches are now gone, althought this is only stage one and he has at least another 2 ops to go, (and dosent look like they done very much), i was amazed at how brave he was (much braver than me).
we have his outpatients app next week to discuss the next satge (eek :( )
its great to at long last talk to other mums who know more about this.

let me know when he is getting it done - I'm an old pro now. My son had his first surgery with the skin graph at 14 months and the second surgery to move the urethra at 21 months. He recovered amazingly well, even though he was very active and had a catheter the second time for 10 days (the first time wasn't too bad because he wasn't walking yet).
I also joined Hypospadias Moms on the Circle of Moms site - I was so excited to see it there!

my son also has it, they told us he wouldnt need the surgery until he's a year old. I know when it comes time for him to get the surgery, I will have a lot of questions.

My son had it and had surgery for his and all is fine now. He only needed one surgery though as his was to the least degree of hypospadias. It's scary having to see them through surgery so young. My son was 6 months old when he had his done.
