I am 37 and have two children. I miscarried twice lately. Do I need fertility treatment due to age?

I fell pregnant naturally, twice in 13 months but am worried due to my age. Tests have revealed no problems but I can see fertility experts who will repeat these tests and also test my Fallopian tubes, but they can't be blocked as I have conceived twice recently. I have an appointment booked and don't know what to do.Am I wasting my time as I know that I can get pregnant unassisted?

I had a bit of a think about this, and I think it depends why you miscarried..... My understanding is that fertility treatment is to help you conceive, not to stop you miscarrying. So yes, if your problem is not being able to maintain a viable pregnancy, and not in the conception, you possibly are wasting your time. Instead, you would be better off finding out the cause of the miscarriage (eg, is it hormone related, etc), if you are continuing to miscarry and address that issue.

Also remember, women your age fall pregnant all the time. I would only worry about fertility treatment at that age if you had been trying to conceive (like, really making the effort) for 6 months and have not been successful. Also, sometimes, a D&C may be needed following a miscarriage, if you have not had this done.

Have you tried seeing a natropath? They are doing studies now which shows that eating certain foods and having a lack of nutrients in your system can cause miscarriages/difficulty to conceive... You might like going to the natropath more, it can be less intrusive and can improve all areas of your health...

Anne, I had 2 miscarriages when I was 35, both conceived naturally. Shortly after the second miscarriage, I conceived again, and gave birth to a healthy (albeit very small) full-term baby girl. I think we just have to recognise as we get older, our eggs are not as healthy, there is more risk of abnormalities, so there is a greater risk of miscarriage. You didn't mention how long you had been trying again, but 2 miscarriages is not unusual in your late 30s. Hang in there, it is possibly nothing to worry about.

HI ladies, thanks so much for taking the time to write your thoughts. You have helped so much and I do appreciate it. I have sort of concluded that my fertility is not the issue here, so it's probably a waste of time going for fertility treatment. Doctors have told me that it is quite common for ladies to have one or two miscarriages and then have healthy babies. I lost one at almost 5 weeks and one at 12 weeks although baby had stopped growing after 7 weeks. I was devastated. I guess I needed some help to decide whether to go ahead with fertility investigation, but realise that's not an issue after two conceptions in 13 months. Also, I guess it's common to miscarry and am aware that should it happen a third time (I hope not!), then investigations may be carried out. I kind of answered my own question in a way, but you have all helped me to get clarification. I have downloaded an e-book and read up about maximising your chances of fertility, so guess I'll have to put them into practice. Am so sorry for all of you who have had losses too. God bless our babies. Thanks for helping, ladies and God bless you all. Happy Christmas x

If you got pregnant twice in a short time, the issue really isn't a fertility issue. Were those two losses tested for cause? Sometimes drs will not test for a cause of a miscarriage until the 3rd unfortunately, but testing the first can determine the cause and give answers on how to prevent another. It does seem your problem is that issue and cause of loss rather than a fertility problem. It could be as simple as your hormone levels being off which is making your body unable to sustain a healthy pregnancy. That can be corrected very easily. A fertility specialist will deal with ability to conceive, which you know you are capable of, so I would lean more towards a high-risk OB specialist.

I would get another opinion if I were you. Your age could be a factor, however it might not. Stress is also a believed reason/source of miscarriage. Take care of yourself, lay down when you need too and do not allow anyone or anything cause you anymore stress. Hope this helps.

I am very sorry for your loss I know what its like.I had a baby boy at 26 wonderful pregnancy no complications. Three years later I got pregnant again and lost twins. Then 6 months later I got pregnant again and lost that baby, the doctor did a Dand C, then two months later I got pregnant and had a healthy baby girl then four years later I gave birth to another healthy baby girl. I had some coplications during delivery so I will not be having anymore but I am happy with three. I guess what I am saying is hang in there and keep trying and try not to get stressed out have you tried ovulation kits I tried them with my third and it worked.

Take some Geritol to increase the vitamins you have in your system. Strengthening yr immune system will help with age. Gives the folic acid and all of those weird vitamins a boost in our system

ther are a lot of alternate things you can try, reiki, massage, bowen, chinese herbs etc but if there is something physically wrong it needs to be addressed on a physical level not spiritually. addressing it spiritually will stop it from happening again but if you have let it manifest in the body physically it is to late and the issue needs a physical response. love and light harmony and homeware.54328446
