My son is 6 years old and I am considering hyphenating my last name so he isn't the only one with my maiden name. On the other hand I have heard of the difficulties on having a hyphenated last name. Any suggestions?

I have 3 children, 2 from my first marriage 1 from my current one.

I didn't hyphenate my name because the boys have their Dad's name and I wasn't going to keep that. My boys were 8 & 6 when I remarried and it has never been a problem with me having a different name.

The kids at school will call me Mrs B (the boys surname) but I answer to it. I think it's only a probem if you make it one.

There are many people in this world who hyphenate their last names. It's not a big deal at all. You do what you are most comfortable with.

I would just either stay your last name or take your new husband's name. It's not a big deal these days.
