It so important getting the correct name that your happy with as thats one name that you'll be saying alot of.. My husband and I had pre planned both a girls name and a boys name before hand. We had a little boy april 2nd and proudly named him Phoenix'Maximus.
May I suggest finding names that have a meaning to them and seeing if they fit together well

Hi my youngest is named Peter and my daughters name is Magenta like the color. She is 9 years old and at the time of naming her we were watching Blues Clues with our oldest. We get lots of compliments on her name and we have not met any other girls named Magenta before. It is also a village in Italy.
Here are some of our family names (plus others), so some of them are more old-fashioned:
Girls: Mabel (Mae), Lucille (Lucy), Therese, Calista, Dorothy (Dot), Helen, Brooklyn
Boys: Zane, Barrett, Ambrose, Leo, Courtlyn (Court)
Also - kudos to Katie who listed Elaine...it's my mother's name and I LOVE it!
Everytime someone has a baby i love to though out names, so i was excited to see this question. I love the name McKenlee( Mckinleigh) Brayelle for a girl. If i had a boy the name was gonna be Grayston Josiah but, i had a girl. i also like the name Jiah for a boy. my daughters name is Aleigha Celine, and my sons name is Braxton Isaiah. i'm sure you will pick out the perfect name for your little bundle of joy. GOOD LUCK! oh i love the name Omri (sounds like Omree) that was the little boys name in the movie indian in a cuboard but, i like it for a girls name better than a boys.

My daughter is Madeline and my son is Cooper. Both names I thought weren't too common but after you name them you start hearing about them being used a lot(especially Madeline). They suit them well, though, and couldn't imagine them being named different.
A few other names we considered:
girl: Isabella (bella), Annabelle, Macy, Emma, Mylah, Marcy, Evelyn, Camille, Carmen, Lacey
Boy: Brycen, Caden, Korbyn, Andrew(andy), Jersey, Zachary, Nash
Have you checked the BabyNameWizard? http://www.babynamewizard.com/voyager
You can use it to see which names are less (or more) popular and how they have been used over the years.
What a cool and useful site!!!
My daughters are Paola, Sofia and Alicia
Our daughter is Tegan, but it works for a boy or a girl.
I like Keira, which is a bit unusual, but maybe common other places. I also like Megan and Morgan which used to be popular but aren't anymore. Or Ruby, Mya, Avrie
For boys I like Delaney, Marley, Seamus (sha-mus), or Phinneaus (Phinn)
I know, I like weird names :)

Forgot to mention my daughter is called Darcy, she is 14 this year and I love her name. I had it picked if ever I had a daughter when I was 13 years old, saw a film and thought I love that name Darcy, so at 21 when I became a mum to my beautiful little girl she was called Darcy xxx

I had the same issue as you do with finding a unique baby name, I wanted something different but not weird. I did not accomplish different. I thought I did but didn't. i have four kids, two of each. Mine are; Jenna Elizabeth, Ethan John, Elijah Riley and Hayden Emmaliegh. My suggestion is to find a name you like and give it your own spine like a little different spelling or combining two that you like.

My husband and I are both into the unique baby names. We like to switch up the spellings of the names, and we also liked some boy names for girls. We named our first son CeJae (C.J.) and if he would of been a girl the name would of been Calixta James. I know it's silly, but I really think the model that is named James King is gorgeous and my husbands middle name is James so James as a middle name just worked weather a boy or a girl.
