I am pregnant with my first child and am very worried about lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV).

My husband and I own our home and take great care of it. However, for the first time in the 2 years that we have lived there, we have a mouse problem! The pest appeared in February, when I was about 5 or 6 weeks pregnant. I found mouse droppings in the pantry, cleaned them up and mentioned them to my husband. We did not see any evidence of a mouse again until mid-April, when I found more droppings in the pantry. We put out traps and had no luck. I hired an exterminator but am very concerned about the exposure to mouse droppings.

I have not really been sick myself, but LCMV may not cause any symptoms in the mother. It can, however, cause severe birth defects in the developing baby, including chorioretinitis and brain damage. Has anyone else had a problem with mice during pregnancy or heard of LCMV?

I live in a very old house and we have had mice since we moved in. I was pregnant with my youngest when we moved here and she is fine.
