I found out after 2 years I'm not allowed to be called grandma

I just found out after 2 years that my stepdaughter doesn't want me referring to myself as her child's grandma. Sd, her husband, & daughter have also been living with us for the past 2 years. I only found this out after they moved out. Now I have no contact with my husbands grandchild (since I can't call her my grandchild). This has broken my heart. I don't know if this is sd idea or her moms. When I would hold my grandchild, she wouldn't go to her mom, dad, aunt, or biological grandma. We have a special bond & to me it feels like someone died. I don't know if any advice will help me, but I needed to vent & see how other people reacted. My grandchild just turned 2.

Maybe you could talk with your stepdaughter and come up with a cool name that only refers to you. My kids call my mum Vuffie. (Her name is Elizabeth and that was the closest they could come to saying it) It would create a special bond between the two of you. There would be no confusion over which Grandma was being referred to. Do they stay close enough to you that you could invite them over for dinner so you could slowly begin to re-establish contact?
I hope things improve for you.
