i have 7 and 2 yr old boys, what time should they go to bed, and should they go together?

Since there is 5 years between them I would let the 7 year old stay up a little more. For the 2 year old 7:30 is late enough. The 7 year old could go down around 7:30 but reading stories to him or letting him read or look at a book a little longer should be okay but lights should be out by 8 pm.

It totally depends on the kids individual sleep needs and what works best for your family. One child may need 12 hours of sleep at night until they are 6/7.. or older while another child may only need 10-11 hours as young as 2-3 years old.
Do your children have to be woken in the morning or do they naturally wake themselves? Does putting them to bed a little later or earlier change that? How are their attitudes and behaviors during the day? Do they share a room?
There are too many different variables to this question in order to give a definite answer. Personally speaking... somewhere between 6:30 and 8 would work for our family at those ages.

I would separate the bedtime a little bit, especially if they share a room.
It also depends on your two year olds schedule since I know my son used to stay up until 10 and wake up at 6/7. Then when he was 2 1/2 he started going to bed at 9 and still woke up at 6/7 so some kids need less sleep than others. If putting him to bed at 7:30 makes him wake up at 5 you may want to rethink it (unless he stays up past that and is super cranky).
Otherwise I would have the 7 year old sleep half an hour after the 2 year old. It's a good habit to start now since when your children are 6 and 13 your older child will almost certainly have a different bedtime. If you suddenly impliment that later it will seem unfair instead of a par tof life. Also a little brother probably gets a lot of attention and a lot of perks that a 7 year old doesn't get (more of moms attention etc.) so giving something to the 7 year old a perk for being older and more responsible can help them feel better about being older.
It really depends on your kids what time they go to bed. 7:30 and 8:00 seem like good times, just keep in mind if they're waking up really early and resisting bedtime (along with the early wake-up I mean) they may not need as much sleep. If you decide to put them to bed later and they can barely wake up the next morning have them go to bed earlier. My childs 3 and goes to bed at 9 and wakes up early so it depends on the child.

I put my kids to bed at 7:30 pm, they are 8 & 9, that may seem a bit early, but i allow them to stay up to read for 30 minutes (i believe this promotes a positive look on reading). if i were in your shoes i would put them both in bed at 7:30 pm, but explain that 7 yo bedtime isn't REALLY until 8 pm since he gets to read. but his BABY brother has to have lights off at 7:30pm
