I have a 17 yr. old who decided in September to drop out of school, not to be defiant but because he struggled so much in school.

When my son started high school ,was when he really started struggling with school. Algebra he just couldn't seem to grasp even with tutors. He felt overwhelmed with the amount of work they give in high school. He didn't seem to know how to stay on top of things and stay organized. He said every one else in class seemed to get things but him .He also complained of not being able to remember what they discussed in class ect. I had him privately tested for HDHD but he tested as a mild case. I think he feels dumb , and going to school makes it more humiliating for him. My son is not dumb, he taught himself how to play quitar, and is great at it . I think he needs a break from school, but I don't know what to have him do in the mean time. I tell him he isn't allowed to get his license until he gets his GED or something . Anyone out there with this problem?

Not all kids can cope with school especially maths..... If the pressure is to much he can try an apprenticeship ......learning a skill. Not everyone has the capability to adapt to school but they can be very successful in trade. My brother is a high school drop out and today he makes more money than me doing wood work which is a skill..

Thank you for your suggestion, I will try to encourage him to do that. How do you go about getting an apprenticeship?
