I have a 9 year old girl who weighs 47 pounds, and is about as tall as a kindergartener or first grader. How can I help her catch up?

She get's bullied at school for being the smallest. I don't mind her size, because honestly, everyone is different, and that's what makes everyone special. But, I am worried about her at school. Are there any recommendations for things I can do at home to help with growth? I won't take her in for growth hormones (which has been suggested by family in the past). Just wondering. She eats well.

Yeah. I just see that it bothers her sometimes. I don't fill her up with garbage food. Just thought if there was something else I could do to help her come into her own. I know eventually she will, and I am not about to talk about hormone's and such. But maybe if there was a recommendation. Oh well!

Honestly, there isn't much you can do.

It's not like the good old, eat some spinach and you'll grow nice and strong.

I understand that she finds it difficult being small, I can definitely relate! I was always the one who was the kid in any school play or the one that people would randomly pick up, though I pretty early on came to terms with being small and embraced it.

On the other hand, I would be more worried if you said she was as tall as basketball player and only 47 lbs. You say that she eats well, so to me there aren't any health risks. Some people are just small and others are large.

One thing that's important is to not fill her belly up with empty carbs like white bread, sugary drinks or candy etc.

Her diet should be nutritious and well-balanced.

Though you can't work magic over night, you can try to work on her self esteem and turn the being small into something positive. I suddenly saw how I always won in limbo, I could do all kinds of tricks as a cheerleader, I was the fastest and I could climb any tree.

That at least how I made it work
