I have treated my 11 year old like a best friend

I was a single mom for 6 years, I think out of guilt I treated my daughter like she was more of a friend. I'm now married 4 years and she is 11. The way I am too soft and that she think she is my equal is causing fights between my husband and I. It is also making her disrespectful to me and it's getting out of hand. I know I made a mistake and I want to fix it but I don't know where to start without causing more damage. Help

There is nothing wrong with doing special things now and then because of the time spent on the baby. But you have to realize you are her parent first before her friend.

Yes I know your so right. And I know this sounds kind of pathetic, but I just hate the thought of her mad at me, or hurting her feelings...I know I let it go on too long... But yes, I guess it will be baby steps. I also have a one year old son, so sometimes I feel bad that I might not be giving her the attention she needs or wants. But I really am trying to equally spend time. Thank you for the input

The best thing you can do is start to be firm with her and keep on that path. It's probaly going to cause a painful few months until she understands this. But in the end it will work out for you all :).
