I had my first son at the age of 44 and 13 months later gave birth to my second son at the age of 45. My family called me "fertile Myrtle" since I got pregnant right after I got married. Now my boys are 24 and 23. Being an older mom, even in the early 90's, was never a problem. In fact, my husband and I would comment on how many other older parents we would see at PTA, and school events. Yes, every now and then I would be asked if I was the mom or grandmother, but lets face it, many women ARE grandmothers in their 40's. However, as my boys got older those kinds of questions stopped. I wish I could have stayed home with my boys when they were growing up, but we needed the second income. I still brag about the fact that I worked up until the day I gave birth to both of my kids. And, I don't think I had any less energy than a younger mom but perhaps not as much patience. Every now and then I ask one of my sons if it ever bothered them that I was an older mom when they were growing up and they look at me like I'm crazy. I honestly don't think it matters.
